   2011-2012 WINTER FIELD HOCKEY SEASON!!!

We are looking forward to another fun and challenging time during Saturdays in December and January!! Cost is still $40.00, which includes uniform shirt.

If you are new to Winter field hockey, here is a brief overview of our program:

3 leagues: Beginner (ages 6-9), Intermediate (ages 10-13), Senior (ages 13-18).

Each league plays on Saturdays ONLY – NO MID WEEK PRACTICES.

Beginner league plays from 10:30am until noon and focuses on developing the important basic skills needed to play field hockey effectively. This is accomplished through drills and interactive games, as well as some scrimmage play; Intermediates play 11:30am until 1pm, with time split equally in skill development and round-robin play each week; Senior league plays from 1pm until 3pm and is focused strictly on competitive play. Beginner and Intermediate are coached by area high school players, with oversight by adult commissioners. Senior league teams are coached  by adults, most of whom are active players or HS coaches themselves.

All games are overseen by experienced referees who have ultimate authority over the pace of play and keeping safety of players as the main priority.

Sticks are available for loan each week. Every player is responsible for wearing a mouthguard, shin guards, and cleats (recommended).

** NOTE: In years past we have run a successful concession stand during winter field hockey. In order to keep the concession open this season, we need VOLUNTEERS and one special person who is willing to head up this area.

Dates to Remember

Sign Ups will be held Saturday November 5th and 12th from 9am until noon at the SYAA soccer/field hockey fields.

You can also download a registration form and mail it, with registration fee (checks made to SYAA), to: SYAA Winter Field Hockey, PO BOX 3081, Suffolk, VA 23439-3081.
( ALL registration forms MUST be received by November 19, 2011 to ensure being placed on a team!!).

Dates of play are as follows: Dec. 3, 10, 17, 31 and Jan 7, 14, 21, 28.
