Select Travel

The Select Travel Program offers a competitive training and match environment for players between the ages of 8 and 19 who meet minimum standards as set by our director of coaching and coaching staff. As this is the highest level of play that the club offers, players who are willing to commit a significant amount of time and energy to the program are selected through an annual tryout process and placed accordingly. SYAA select level soccer is a member of VYSA, Virginia Youth Soccer Association. Our Select teams are all rostered and carded. The matches are scheduled by VSLI (Virginia Soccer League) or MAPL (Mid Atlantic Premier League).

Advanced Division

Our Advanced soccer program was created as an alternative for players who want to remain in recreational soccer but play at a higher level of competition. Advance soccer provides a player a good first competitive challenge and provides the player the opportunity to develop his/her soccer skills.  Advanced soccer teams play their games on Saturdays.

TASLI- SYAA Soccer league is also a member of the Tidewater Advanced Soccer League Incorporated and Interleague (TASLI). TASLI clubs compete against other clubs from the Tidewater area and teams from Northeast North Carolina. TASL has its own website where schedules and up to date information will be posted. Managers and Parents should use the TASL website for up-to-date information. More information on TASLI can be found here http://tasli.org

Recreation Division

Suffolk Youth Soccer Association (SYAA) provides a fun recreational soccer program for children in ages 3 to 15. The playing brackets are broken down into U4, U5, U6, U8, U10, U12. Recreational players U13 and up play through the Interleague or Advanced TASL Programs.

Each age bracket has a cutoff starting on August 1st. A player who turns the U# age (i.e.: if U8, turns 8) on Aug. 1st or after is in that division for the season. The U stands for “under”. Players who are under the U# age before the cutoff date are considered age appropriate for the playing year (Fall and Spring).

The SYAA recreational program is focused on having fun and teaching the game basics. The small sided games are designed to allow all players equal participation with an emphasis on developing ball handling skills. SYAA Soccer develops players who respect themselves, their teammates, their opponents, the officials, and the game.

When we don’t have enough players to play in older divisions, we play through Interleague, These teams are made up of children ages 9-18 and allow children from Suffolk to play teams from other clubs in Hampton Roads. This league plays 5v5, except for U9/10 which plays 7v7 and U11/12 which plays 8v8. All games are played on a u9/u10 size field, except U11/12 which are played on a U11/12 size field. Interleague provides an end of the season tournament.

Top Soccer

In the Fall of 2014, SYAA FC began a new soccer program for athletes with special needs called Top Soccer. We plan to continue this program in the Spring of 2015 and beyond. Our Top Soccer program centers around an inclusive environment where all children regardless of physical or cognitive abilities can enjoy the game of soccer.

This Spring we are offering Top Soccer at no cost to athletes. If you know someone who is interested in playing in this program they can register on our website. We are also looking for sponsors to help make it possible to offer this for free. Contact Derk Gregory with any questions at Derk.Gregory@supshipnn.navy.mil
